For those of you who
are experiencing post “disappearing” or “numbers flickering/changing” when using
Outlook Express, this may mean that your machine is not in-sync with the server.
The following has been found to be effective in resolving these types of problems.
These instructions will
“Reset” the newsgroup in question. This is a two-step process:
Step One:
Highlight the newsgroup you want to “reset”.
Right-click on this newsgroup and select PROPERTIES.
1. Click on “Local File”.

2. Click on the “Reset” button.
3. Click “yes” to “Are you sure you want to reset
and delete all locally cached messages
from folder ’uiu.xxx.xxx’?”
You
will now see all of your posts for that folder disappear. Once, they are gone:
Step
Two:
Click on Tools
Synchronize Newsgroups
Check ‘Get the Following’

All of your messages should now appear.
NOTE: Be aware, that since you are downloading all the messages
again, they will all be “Unread”. A quick way to work around this is to highlight
the newsgroup you just reset,
right mouse click, and then click on “Catch-Up”. This
makes all the postings “read”. This way you do not have to
re-read all of the postings.
