What is Synchronizing and Do I Really Need to Do it?
Synchronizing downloads all postings that are in a particular newsgroup so you can read, reply, and participate in your classes. Synchronizing ensures that you have the latest and most up-to-date information that is in the newsgroups.
There are three options for synchronizing. You can either get all messages, new messages only, or headers only. The first synchronization after subscribing to a newsgroups, we recommend that you synchronize all messages. After that we recommend that you synchronize new messages only. Headers only are faster, but they only download the subject, time, date and who the post was from. To view the content of the post, you have to be online to download the content.
To change the synchronization option for a particular newsgroup:
Highlight the newsgroup on the left-hand side of the screen
Right-mouse click on that newsgroup
Click on "Synchronize Settings"
Select the synchronization settings you want by clicking on it. There will be a little dot to the left of the setting
The next time you synchronize, the setting will be used
