How do I create another OE identity?
How do I set up my UIU accounts in Outlook Express (OE)?
Go to http://meetings.uiuonline.org
Click on Downloads.
Click on the OXM icon.
Follow the instructions for downloading/installing OXM.
Double click on the OXM icon on your desktop.
Click on “Accept & Continue”.
OXM will prompt you for your UIU Username, Password and ISP information.
Click on “Create OE Identity”.
Click on Exit to close OXM.
Open Outlook Express (you will find this on your Desktop and/or in your Programs menu).
If, at the top in the blue shaded area, you see uiu100.org, you are in the proper identity and are finished setting up your UIU accounts.
If uiu100.org does NOT appear in the blue shaded area:
Click on File.
Click on Switch Identities.
Select uiu100.org.
Click OK.
OE will close then reopen in the proper uiu100.org identity.
If you would like this identity to come up automatically when you open OE
Click on File/Identities/Manage Identities
In both of the “pull down” boxes select uiu100.org
If, for some reason, you are NOT able to download/install OXM, you will need to set up your UIU accounts manually. Here is how you do it (You may want to print out these instructions):
Open Outlook Express.
Click on File/Identities/Add New Identity.
Enter uiu100.org for the Identity name
Do NOT select the “Require a Password” option.
Click OK.
When asked if you would like to switch to the new identity, answer YES.
Outlook Express will close and reopen in the new identity.
Follow the wizard for setting up your mail account using
your UIU Username/Password
uiuonline.org for your Incoming (POP3) server
IF your ISP is NOT on the ISP List enter uiuonline.org for the Outgoing (SMTP) server. OTHERWISE enter the name listed in the “SMTP Setting” column for your ISP.
When finished with the wizard, complete the mail account setup as follows:
Click on Tools/Accounts.
Click on the Mail tab.
Click on Properties.
Click on the Servers Tab.
Put a checkmark in “My server requires authentication”.
If your ISP was on the ISP List and has a “Y” in “ISP Login” column:
Click on the “Settings” button.
Select “log on using”.
Enter the Username and Password you have with your ISP. If your ISP Username has an @ symbol, enter only what is before the @
Put a checkmark next to “Remember Password”.
IF your ISP has a “Y” in the “Secure PW” column, check the box next to “Log on using Secure Password Authentication”
Click OK.
Click “APPLY”
If your ISP was on the ISP List and has a number OTHER THAN “25” in the “SMTP Port” column:
Click on the Advanced Tab.
Enter the Port number from the ISP List in the “Outgoing mail (SMTP)” field.
Click “APPLY”.
Click OK.
You will now need to setup your Class News Account
Click on the News Tab.
Click on Add/News.
If the display name is not already there enter your First and Last name.
Click NEXT.
If the email address is not already there enter your UIU email address.
Click NEXT.
Enter the news server meetings.uiuonline.org
Check the box next to “My server requires me to log on”
Click NEXT
If the account name is not there, enter your UIU account name
Enter your UIU password
Put a checkmark in “Remember Password”
“Log on using secure password authentication” should NOT be checked
Click NEXT
Click FINISHED
You will now need to set up a second News account to have access to the Community newsgroups. For this account, follow the above instructions and on Step 10.g enter the news server name community.uiuonline.org.
Close” the Internet Accounts window
